Renato Grieco & Rebecca Moccia: Ministry of Loneliness Theme
The vinyl sonically traces Moccia's research into Loneliness and its Ministries, presenting the original music composed by Renato Grieco for the project. The audio tracks were composed using a degradation process involving burying a support, magnetic tape, previously edited by Grieco with sounds from acoustic and synthetic instruments. It's a translation of the complex sensation of Loneliness sought through the tearing of sound. The vinyl, in its physical form, has been created by borrowing aesthetic elements from Moccia's practice, from the thermic print impressed on the disk - an atmospheric representation of one of the places encountered by the artist in her research journey - to the sleeve - whose ceramic edition takes up the material used in the formalization of her previous works, emphasizing the materiality and fragility of solitary bodies.
The collaboration between the two artists began with Moccia's research journey, which traversed the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan, observing the Ministries of Loneliness - part of the political arrangements of these countries - and the places that daily shape political decisions and social relations. Over time, her analysis touched on the structures and methodologies through which neoliberal bureaucratic devices create, rather than cure, this emotional state. From the research emerged the video-installation Ministries of Loneliness, hosted for the first time in the spaces of Fondazione ICA Milano and produced by Careof, accompanied by Grieco's audio composition, in which emotional states are transmitted both visually and audibly.
The collaboration between Paint It Black and Cripta747 stems from the desire to give new form to this collection of tracks conceived by Renato Grieco and Rebecca Moccia, also part of the artist's solo exhibition at Cripta747, where the audio transmitted through horn speakers further intensifies the perception of oppression and control characteristic of liberal apparatuses.
