Goshi Uhira is an artist and designer who has expanded his playing field globally with his monochrome toned, delicate and tranquil works. ORDINARY BOOKS has published a first ever monograph of his past artwork and designs. The publication contains the following: “Slow and silent images — The perception of a delicate domain”, an interview with Uhira about his upbringing and future practices, “The Ethics of Texture”, a text written by art critic Ryo Sawayama, and “The Design of Love”, an essay written by Futoshi Hoshino, associate professor at the University of Tokyo. In the closing of the book, you will be able to see the specifications of the paper materials Uhira applied to his works.

Goshi Uhira
He is an artist and designer based in Tokyo. Born in Fukuoka in 1988, he later graduated from the Department of Industrial Art at Tokyo Metropolitan University. In the past, he has come forward with delicate and tranquil artwork such as Skin, a serial work of art that displays the infinite textures human skin has in high definition grayscale photography; and Glass Balls, an installation using thousands of glass balls. He has held solo exhibitions as well, one of which called Unknown Skin in 2021 at the Yokohama Civic Art Gallery (Kanagawa), and another called Breathing Books in 2020 at the NADiff a/p/a/r/t (Tokyo). In 2020, he received the Kazuko Koike Award after participating in the 3331 Art Fair held at 3331 Arts Chiyoda (Tokyo). Among the publications Uhira has worked on the designs for are Practicing Aesthetics by Futoshi Hoshino (Suiseisha, 2021), Dynamics of Painting by Ryo Sawayama (Shoshikankanbou, 2020), Donald Judd by Toru Arakawa (Suiseisha, 2019), and Vertigo by Daisuke Yokota (Newfave, 2014).
