Acid Paintings
The book collecting two years worth of experiments in manipulating the offset plates of a specific product by Lorenzo Mason Studio based in Venice.
This unorthodox printing process has been conceived as a way of creating unique works for art for commercial projects (such as posters, leaflets and record covers) without the use of digital files; using only the tools that are commonly and specifically used by printers.
The book is printed on six different stocks of paper (from coated to uncoated — from matte to glossy). It also uses ten spot colours with the intention of showing how the same process reacts with both the different materials and the varying colour combinations.
The book has not been bound, as this gives the reader the possibility of changing the sequence of pages and obtaining new combinations; exploring how colors can create different stories.
The book also considers a conversation between the studio and the printers, where everyday topics are mixed with philosophical thoughts in understanding the importance of experimenting.
It is this which encourages the use of techniques we’re used to dealing with in the daily practice, searching for unorthodox and random results and exploring chance and the value in accepting printing mistakes.
