Fashion stylist Koji Oyamada began photographing his friends as subjects in January 2020. This process was carried out until May 2023, and eventually involved 287 subjects and 22 photographers. Photographs were taken where the subjects lived or where they visited with Oyamada, and a single piece of clothing or accessory collected by Oyamada was subtly incorporated into the subject’s outfit of the day. The book loosely weaves and unravels the boundaries between portraiture, fashion snaps, and documentation.

The title “Naniga-miteru-yume” was inspired by a phrase from the PlayStation role-playing game “Chrono Cross. What we see but do not exist. Is what we see a dream? If so, what is it that we are dreaming about? We hope that you will experience Oyamada’s perspective as he continues to gaze at the shifting boundaries between the self and others, reality and fiction.
